While procrastinating on Facebook, I have just received a new invitation to be a bêta tester of the new GitHub application for Android

So let’s test it 📐

First of all after clicking on the link you are redirected to the official bêta test page

GitHub Blog

After that you just need to download the app on your smartphone or install it directly via Google Play

GitHub App

You launch and log into the app just by taping your GitHub credentials and allow the app to access your account, it’s trusted of course, you just need to say ok

After Login

Now how does it work ?

Let’s try to explore it a little bit, and let’s start by clicking on the issues button

So when taping the issues button, I find some of my official opened issues on the repos I contribute to, for example let’s take the newest one

An Issue

This issue is still on the repository of YouPHPTube which for example has changed its name and I don’t like the new one AVideo because it doesn’t say that you have to respect the copyrights of the videos you post on your site and it should better to stay YouPHPTube instead of creating a new concept in my opinion so, let’s talk about it

So I click on the repository name

Back to the Repo

I have opened a new issue by clicking on the plus button

Open an Issue

So let’s check how it looks ?

Check the Issue in the List

It looks that it works fine and the issue is added to the list

The Issue

As you can see the issue looks more like a discussion one can have on slack or discord, something like a little question

Now let’s go back to our main menu

Main Menu

The Issue is on the Dashboard I see it

The day after, I’ve gone to take a coffee and heveing my smartphone and the app installed

Coffee Time

I have opened the GitHub App on android and found an answer to the issue arguing about trademarks and so and also that it’s better to have a new brand

I have just clicked on comment and added one, sure it looks like a bar discussion and am not sure how to write something as a comment on an issue as important as a project name that has changed because of the trademarks wars in a way like an sms plus on GitHub which is more for work then to just discuss stuff

Do I have to ask GitHub staff about the good practices like one should know how to ask a good question on stack overflow ?

So taking my courrage and going for it founding a thumbs up by the way, I can’t see who made that guessing it means that’s okey keep going

Comment the Issue

I’ve got my answers and no way, the name has definitely changed, I’ve reacted with the spaceship emoji and will have a lot of work again with my installation on bledtube.com which will be probably other issues like how to migrate the database to the new release and how to update my wasabi plugin

Now let’s explore the other functionalities of the GitHub Android App
